About Us

The professional staff at Rotz Pharmacy is dedicated to treating you the way we all want to be treated …like you’re important and in a courteous and friendly manner. The practice of pharmacy, along with the role of the community pharmacist, is continually evolving to meet society’s health care needs. Rotz Pharmacy strives to be on the cutting edge of pharmacy practice by providing services you cannot receive at chain drug stores, or mail order pharmacies.

Our History

Rotz Pharmacy…a locally owned Independent Community Pharmacy began in 1976 under the name of Barry’s Drug Store at 23 W. Boscawen Street. John Rotz purchased Barry’s Drug Store upon graduation from the Medical College of Virginia, School of Pharmacy/VCU. After practicing in downtown for 2 years, he decided to expand his business and moved, in October 1978, to Medical Circle (off Amherst Street) and changed the name to Medical Circle Pharmacy. Although successful, Mr. Rotz saw a need for another expansion and in April 2004, built a new building at 1338 Amherst Street and once again changed the name of his business to Rotz Pharmacy.

Offering “Old Fashioned Care and Service…. The way pharmacy should be” has always been our slogan and those patrons who walk through our door have found that because of the friendly service and fast filling of their prescription, there is NO other place to go, to get better pharmaceutical care.
