John S. Rotz, RPh
Pharmacist – Owner
John began his practice of pharmacy by purchasing Barry’s Drug Store in May 1976. Born and raised in Winchester-Frederick County and attending James Wood High School, he discovered the pharmacy profession by working for his father at Boyd’s Drug Store as delivery boy. During his final rotation for VCU/Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy at Barry’s Drug Store, discussions and agreements were made to purchase the pharmacy upon graduation. During the months between graduation and passing of the state boards, John hired the former owner to be the pharmacist. After two years of operation at 23 W. Boscawen Street, John moved the practice and changed the name to Medical Circle Pharmacy, for which he remained for 26 years. In 2004, he moved and changed the name once again to Rotz Pharmacy and the current location of 1338 Amherst Street.
John has been and remains a member of the Northern Virginia Society of Pharmacist and was past President, Virginia Pharmacy Association and the National Community Pharmacist Association. Somewhat active in the community, he has served on the Boards of Frederick County Public School Health Advisory Board, Blue Ridge Hospice and Bank of Clarke County Trust Advisory Board and a member of the local Addiction Action Committee.
John received his Certification for Immunization in 1997, the first year the state of Virginia allowed pharmacist to immunize and continues the practice currently. He has also continued the same “old fashioned service and care” that he learned as a teen working in his fathers drug store and is proud to continue the independent pharmacy tradition as being the only Independent Pharmacy practice in the City of Winchester.
John has two children, son, Jason, who is the business manager of Rotz Pharmacy and daughter, Cory, who is a pharmacist practicing in Roanoke, Va. In addition, he has 3 grand children, soon to be 5.
Susan (Susie) Whitacre, RPh
Staff Pharmacist
Susie is a staff pharmacist for Rotz Pharmacy and began working at Medical Circle Pharmacy,(now Rotz Pharmacy) in 1982.
A Lifelong resident of the Winchester-Frederick County area, she graduated from James Wood High School in 1967. Susie attended Roanoke College for 2 years before transferring to The Medical College of Virginia (Virginia Commonwealth University) School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree.
Susie practiced Pharmacy at Johnson-Willis Hospital, Richmond, Va., Eugene V. White, Pharmacist in Berryville, Va., Rhodes Pharmacy, Miller’s Drug Store, Revco/CVS in Winchester and Berryville Pharmacy in Berryville, Va.
In 1982, Susie found a home with Medical Circle Pharmacy (now Rotz Pharmacy) where she has become an irreplaceable asset.
Susie has been is a member or been a member of the following Professional associations: The Northern Virginia Society of Pharmacists, Virginia Pharmacy Association and the American Pharmaceutical Association. She is a former Board member of the Frederick County Schools Health Advisory Board and former volunteer at the Free Medical Clinic of the Northern Shenandoah Valley. Susie is certified by the APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Program.
She resides in Frederick County with her husband.

Samantha Jones, PharmD, RPh
Staff Pharmacist
Dr. Samantha Jones is a registered pharmacist who began working for Rotz Pharmacy in 2014.
She received her Bachelor of Science from Shepherd University in 2010. To further her education, she moved to Morgantown, WV to attend pharmacy school. While completing pharmacy school, Samantha worked as a registered pharmacy intern at Cheat Lake Pharmacy in Morgantown where she developed her passion for independent pharmacy. Samantha received her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from West Virginia University in May of 2014. After graduation Samantha worked briefly as a pharmacist at Target Pharmacy in Maryland and in December of 2014, joined the staff of Rotz Pharmacy where she is happy to be serving the Winchester community.
Samantha received both the APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery Certificate and APhA Pharmacist and Patient Centered Diabetes Care Certificate in 2014. Samantha is skilled at administering immunizations, compounding prescriptions, and educating patients about their medications. Her focus is making sure that each patient is receiving the exceptional care and service that Rotz Pharmacy has been known for.
Samantha resides in Inwood, WV with husband.
Dan Nemeth-Barath, RPh
Staff Pharmacist
Dan began working for Rotz Pharmacy (then Medical Circle Pharmacy) in 1995.
Dan was born February 26, 1937 Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School, Washington, D.C. 1955. After graduating from Howard University, College of Pharmacy, Washington, D.C., B. S. Pharmacy 1960 he worked as pharmacist with People’s Drug Stores from 1960 to 1961.
On July 1, 1961, Dan became a pharmaceutical sales representative with Eli Lilly and Company and covered several different territories until transferred to Winchester in July 1975
In 1976 Dan, as a Lilly representative began to call on Mr. Rotz at Barry’s Drug Store and later at Medical Circle Pharmacy.
Dan retired from Lilly on December 31, 1995 but within six weeks, Mr. Rotz, began working on Saturdays or whenever needed for which he still does today.
Dan has been married for 53 years; has two daughters, two grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Jason A. Rotz
Registered Pharmacy Technician, Business Manager
A life long resident of the Winchester/Frederick County area who graduated from James Wood High School in 1996. Jason has held numerous positions at the Pharmacy over the years. He began dusting shelves and other miscellaneous tasks at the pharmacy as a small child and eventually became the delivery driver while in high school. Jason returned to the pharmacy in 2002 as a Registered Pharmacy Technician, a position he maintained while completing his degree at Shenandoah University.
After graduating from the Harry F. Byrd School of Business with a focus on Healthcare Administration Jason moved into his current position of Pharmacy Manager.
Besides overseeing daily operations, Jason works diligently to grow the number of patients served while expanding and improving the products and services offered by the Pharmacy. Jason focuses on growing and maintaining relationships within the community with the patients and facilities we serve. He has been instrumental in expanding our immunization clinics, establishing our Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Program, educating patients on the Medicare Part-D program, and expanding our Over-The-Counter (OTC) offerings. Jason is responsible for technology and automation within the pharmacy with the goal of creating easier transactions ultimately leading to improved patient satisfaction. Holly Kaiser
Registered Pharmacy Technician
Holly Kaiser began working for Rotz Pharmacy (then Medical Circle Pharmacy) in 2001 as a Registered Pharmacy Technician.
In 2004 she began managing our medication compliance program, “Medicine-On-Time” or MOT for short. Holly works closely with several assisted living facilities, group homes and inpatient facilities in our community to ensure their residents medication regimens are properly maintained and administered. She also works directly with many patients who need help managing their mediations therapies using the MOT program who are not in a facility. In all Holly directly coordinates patient care over 250 patients. While Holly’s current focus is primarily on the MOT program, due to her longevity, she is able to do anything and everything in the pharmacy and is generally our go to person when a solution is needed.
Holly is from the Winchester/Frederick County area and graduated from James Wood High School. She currently lives in Frederick County with her husband and 3 children.
Shannon Pitts
Registered Pharmacy Technician
Shannon Pitts is a registered pharmacy technician and began working at Rotz Pharmacy in 2007.
Born and raised on Long Island, N.Y., she graduated from Brentwood Ross High School in 2001. Then attended Dowling College in Oakdale, NY before moving to Stephens City VA in 2002.
Shannon’s Pharmacy experience started in a grocery store chain called Shop Rite in Bay Shore NY in 2000. When she moved to VA, she worked at Rite Aid in Purcellville VA for a short while then transferred to Rite Aid in Winchester and remained there for 5 years.
Shannon is the “front” end manager, works on inventory control and manages the inventory and sale of our Durable Medical Equipment, such as Custom Fit Diabetic Shoes/Insoles. Shannon works daily with insurance reimbursements, and product inventory.
She married in October 2008, and had her first child, a daughter, in 2012.
Brittany Tomblin
Registered Pharmacy Technician
Brittany is a registered pharmacy technician and began working for Rotz Pharmacy in 2012
Born and raised in Berryville, VA where she graduated from Clarke County High School in 2000. After high school Brittany went on to Virginia Tech where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and minor in Psychology. Upon completion of her undergraduate work she enrolled at Argosy University where she graduated in 2007 with her Master of Arts degree in Forensic Psychology . Brittany started working at Berryville Pharmacy in 2004 until they closed in March of 2012. She briefly worked at CVS until she joined the Rotz Pharmacy family in October of that same year.
Brittany’s duties include customer service and care. As well as data input and filling of prescriptions. She is in charge of Medicare/Durable Medical Equipment sales and rentals along with compounding of medications. Brittany also assists with Medicine-On-Time, a patient compliance program as well as inventory control.
Brittany currently resides in Stephens City with her husband Bryan.
Chastity Cruise
Registered Pharmacy Technician
Chastity Cruise is a registered pharmacy technician and began working at Rotz Pharmacy in 2013.
She was born in Winchester VA and moved to Strasburg VA in 1993 with her family. She graduated from Strasburg High School in 2006.
Her pharmacy experience started at Lantz’s Pharmacy in Stephens City VA in 2005. At Lantz’s Pharmacy, Chastity was an essential part of their business, she not only worked as a pharmacy technician, but also managed their e-mails, and ordered and managed their Croc display.
In 2013 Chastity left Lantz’s Pharmacy and her knowledge and skill was sincerely welcomed at Rotz Pharmacy. Today Chastity can be found inputting patient and prescription data at the main computer station at Rotz, along with managing the financial, inventory, patient, and medication reports.
Chastity married her husband in 2014, and currently resides in Winchester VA.
Glynis Muniz
Registered Pharmacy Technician, Sales Associate
Glynis began working at Rotz Pharmacy in June of 2010 as a clerk at Rotz pharmacy and later a Registered Pharmacy Technician.
Glynis was born and raised in Frederick County and graduated from Sherando High School. She received her Associates Degree from Lord Fairfax Community College before being accepted into the PharmD Program at Shenandoah University.
Through the years, Glynis has worked her way to becoming a Registered Pharmacy Technician and in August of 2015 will enter Pharmacy School at Shenandoah University with her goal of becoming a licensed pharmacist. Glynis plans to continue to work at the pharmacy at some capacity until she graduates in May of 2019.
During her time at Rotz Pharmacy her duties have grown from those of a clerk to encompass those of a pharmacy technician and now those of a pharmacy intern; however she primarily focuses on customer service. When she’s not actively engaged with a patient Glynis is involved with prescription input, diabetic shoe fittings, compounding, inventory control and compliance packaging.
She is married, lives in Frederick County VA and is an active member of Second Opequon Presbyterian Church.
Maris Mulroney
Sales Associate, Clerk
Maris began working for Rotz Pharmacy in 2013.
Maris Mulroney grew up in Berryville, Virginia. She graduated from Clarke County High School in 2012. Maris received her Associates in Liberal Arts from Lord Fairfax Community College in May 2015. She is transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University where she will major in Early Childhood Education.
Maris was a sales associate at Berryville Pharmacy from 2010 to 2012 before joining the staff of Rotz Pharmacy. Her daily duties include, but are not limited to; assisting patients on ordering medication, distribution of promotional items, monitoring of front end inventory, preparation of deliveries, operation of the drive through window, and organization of prescription files and insurance records. In addition to her multitude of daily duties, she is first person to greet you with a smile as you come into Rotz Pharmacy or on the phone.
Maris currently lives in Berryville, but will be moving to the “Fan” in Richmond to attend VCU in September.
Andrew “Sonny” Higgs
Delivery Driver
Sonny began working at Rotz Pharmacy in 2007 as our MOTAG – Manager of Transportation of Apothecary Goods.
Sonny’s responsibilities include the delivery of prescriptions and other apothecary goods to both the facilities we service and to the homes of Winchester’s residents. Sonny is known for his quick delivery and hidden shortcuts through town known only to him! Additionally Sonny ensures that our pharmacy department is well stocked with all the supplies needed to quickly fill prescriptions for our patients.
Before coming to Rotz Pharmacy Sonny worked for F&M and later BB & T Banks until he retired in 2001.
Sonny has been married for over 50 years and has 3 children and 7 grandchildren. When he’s not spending time with family he enjoys following the University of Virginia sports teams and the Washington Nationals baseball team.
Stephen “Steve” Booth
Delivery Driver
Steve began working at Rotz Pharmacy in 2012 as our MOTAG – Manager of Transportation of Apothecary Goods.
Steve’s responsibilities include the delivery of prescriptions and other apothecary goods to both the facilities we service and directly to the homes of Winchester’s residents. He is known for doing this with great enthusiasm AND a smile! He is our resident ‘Handy-man’ and is our go-to guy for things that need to be fixed. Additionally Steve ensures that our pharmacy department is well stocked with all the supplies needed to quickly fill prescriptions for our patients.
Before coming to Rotz Pharmacy Steve worked in material resources for over 40 years for companies such as Doubleday, Abex, etc. He ‘retired’ in 2012 and has since worked for The Winchester Group and Appleland Sports Center in various capacities.
Steve has been married for over 35 years and has 4 children and 5 grandchildren. He graduated from Clarke County High School and has degrees from both Virginia Tech (B.S., B.A.) and James Madison University (M.B.A).
Debbie Phelps
Bookkeeper, Secretary
Debbie is the Bookkeeper and Secretary for Rotz Pharmacy and began working for Rotz Pharmacy 2011.
Debbie was born and raised in Frederick County, VA and graduated from James Wood High School in 1969. She held the Vice President office in her senior year. Immediately after graduating from high school, she began her career as a secretary and bookkeeper and Plumly Lumber. She worked there until her husband started his own electrical business where she became his bookkeeper.
She became employed in February of 1991 at Winchester Physical Therapy as their bookkeeper and secretary until April 2009.
In February of 2011 she began as a bookkeeper part time with Rotz Pharmacy where she does accounts payables and other secretarial duties.
She has been married for 45 years and has two sons and three grandchildren and still lives in Frederick County.
